- To foster academic achievement in a small, supportive, structured environment
- To equip students with the skills necessary to become a productive and competent adults.
Introduction
The Montville Board of Education authorized an alternative school in response to the need for a more structured yet flexible school environment for students who were failing in the mainstream high school program. The alternative high school opened in the fall of 1977 in the lower wing of the Uncasville School.
Presently the program operates out of the Palmer Memorial School and serves students who are not succeeding academically and/or behaviorally in the traditional high school setting. The program has expanded to include a full-time social worker and a community-based school supported employment component. The combination of academics and support services provides students an opportunity to gain valuable career related experience.
